Jake and Olivia McLees are the visionary couple behind The Big Lady, an elevated dining destination in Onalaska, Wisconsin. After years of dreaming about running an intimate 30-seat venue, they found themselves drawn to something far more ambitious – an expansive, state-of-the-art restaurant space on the banks of the Mississippi River. It was love at first sight.
Jake McLees
Jake, a self-taught chef with a bold palate and a love of rule-breaking elegance, brings fearless flavor to every dish. His food isn’t just memorable – it’s transportive. Jake’s cooking blends restorative comfort with unexpected finesse, always pushing boundaries without losing soul.
Olivia McLees
Olivia, a front-of-house expert with deep roots in fine dining, creates a guest experience that is effortlessly graceful. Her approach to service is personal and precise, turning every visit into an opportunity for connection and calm. With a passion for mentorship and hospitality that goes beyond the plate, Olivia’s leadership helps define the heart of The Big Lady.


Miso McLees
At the center of it all is Miso, their beloved bulldog and the namesake of The Big Lady. Miso is more than a pet—she’s the heartbeat at home when Jake and Olivia are giving everything to the restaurant. Naming the space after her was a tribute to loyalty, warmth, and understated strength. Miso represents the soul of the place: calm, grounded, and full of love.
